Text Analysis

Creative Dynamics of the Actor

Mondays 1-3pm EST via Zoom, $190 per month. This text analysis class is dedicated to exploring and developing each actor’s process.

The divine Eleonora Duse said, “I do not play my character – I am my character’s advocate,” and with a lift of a finger, her entire self could transform and move the entire audience. This is the ability we work to have in Creative Dynamics of the Actor.

Each student works on developing a personal, intuitive craft and professional technique based on the principles of Kinetic Mind – full presence, awareness, and instantaneous relationship between mind, body, imagination, and the outside space, all informing creativity and fluid state of being. We work to live each moment and be as interesting as wild animals.

Students examine the actor’s creative process through different ways and means and applies it through scene work and monologues. The class also employs creative explorations, poems, research, text analysis, watching great film performances, improvisations, rehearsals, dialogue exercises, and kinetic work. Each part of class is a chance for exploration and discovery of the truths of the art form.

The class works together on one text or piece of material together, with each student assigned a character on which to fully work on creatively layer by layer. Class begins with an hour or so of kinetic exercises and then delves into the work of the actor. The ultimate goal is to bring to fruition the innate and unique creative talent of each student and to bring that talent to the art form and precise artistry.

Directors who want to learn how to work with actors are encouraged to join.

“All that is important is this one moment in movement. Make the moment important, vital, worth living. Do not let it slip away unnoticed or unused."
